Enerji Tüketimi Ekonomik Büyümeyi Etkileyen Bir Faktör Müdür? AB Ülkeleri Üzerine Ekonometrik Bir Analiz
2023

Abstract:

Energy consumption is a factor that affects economic growth? Economic analysis of the EU countries
2023
Author:
Abstract:

The increase in energy consumption is seen as one of the major causes of global warming and environmental damage. But as a result of the country’s economic development, growth and rapid urbanization, much more energy is needed. Although the world’s countries know the environmental effects of energy, the attractiveness of economic development makes the countries more focused on energy use. This is why the increase in energy consumption is inevitable and the world’s interest in fossil fuels is increasing every day. Although today the interest in renewable energy is increasing in the world, the access to this energy is not yet possible for all countries in the world, the addiction to the use of fossil fuels is expected to continue in the coming years. Therefore, energy is an indispensable element to ensure the country’s sustainable economic growth. Therefore, the impact of energy use on economic growth is an important issue that should be focused carefully on. In this context, this study examines the relationship between energy use and economic growth in the EU countries for the period 1995-2015. This relationship has been analyzed with the CCEMG predictor. In addition to the use of energy in the model, the model has been expanded by studying the impact on growth in physical capital, human capital and inflation. According to the results of the analysis, the long-term test results showed differences throughout the panel and based on the country. According to the panel results, there were statistically meaningful relationships between the variables. While the existence of a positive relationship between physical capital and growth is identified, the existence of a negative relationship between energy use and growth is identified. The existence of the reverse relationship between growth and energy use within the EU points out that the EU should be focused on energy efficiency policies.

Abstract:

The increase in energy use is seen as one of the biggest causes of global warming and environmental destruction. However, as a result of countries' economic development, growth and rapid urbanization, much more energy use is needed. Although the world's countries are aware of the environmental effects of energy, the attractiveness of economic development leads countries to use more energy. Therefore, the increase in energy consumption is inevitable and the world's interest in fossil fuels is growing day by day. Although the interest in renewable energy sources is increasing in the world today, it is expected that the dependence on fossil fuel use will continue in the coming years, since it is not possible for all countries of the world to access this energy yet. For this reason, energy is an indispensable element for countries to achieve sustainable economic growth. Therefore, the effect of energy use on economic growth is an important issue that should be carefully considered. In this context, this study examines the relationship between energy use and economic growth in European Union countries for the period 1995-2015. This relationship was analyzed with the CCEMG estimator. In addition to the use of energy in the model, the effect of physical capital, human capital and inflation on growth has been examined and the model has been expanded. According to the analysis results, there were differences in the long-term test results across the panel and on a country basis. According to the panel results, statistically significant relationships were found between the variables. While a positive relationship was found between physical capital and growth, a negative relationship was found between energy use and growth. The existence of an inverse relationship between growth and energy use in the European Union draws attention to the fact that the EU should focus on energy efficiency policies.
