Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to determine the reasons why 8th grade students use the YouTube platform in learning mathematics subjects. For this purpose, the opinions of a total of 81 eighth grade students studying in 6 different secondary schools in the Nizip district of Gaziantep province in the 2022-2023 fall semester were collected through an interview form, including a personal information form, developed by the researcher. In the research designed in the case study model, one of the qualitative research models, content analysis and descriptive analysis methods were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that students benefit from the YouTube platform for reasons such as creating a more comfortable learning environment than the classroom environment in learning mathematics subjects, providing the opportunity to repeat the subject, correcting the deficiencies in the subject and watching the lessons again, being flexible in terms of time and place, and having different narrative styles.
