Sanat tarihinin avangart sanatçıları arasında yer alan Dadaist Kurt Schwitters’in kendi sanatsal yaratımı sonucu ortaya çıkan Merz kavramı, zamanla kişisel bir sanat hareketine dönüşmüştür. Sanatçının Merzbild olarak adlandırdığı sınıfa dâhil olan asamblajlar, alternatif malzemelerin üç boyutlu eserlere dönüştürüldüğü bir çalışma disiplinidir ve bu nedenle araştırmanın temel amacını oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada yöntem olarak içerik analizi ve sanat eseri analizi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Sanatçının yaratım sürecine katkı sağlayan olaylar, durumlar ve bunun sonucunda vardığı nokta ile ilgili literatür taramaları yapılmış, araştırma için gerekli olduğu düşünülen konular kuramsal bir şekilde ifade edilmiştir. Çalışmanın kapsamı çerçevesinde disiplinler arası bir kavram olan Merz’in ortaya çıkışı, gelişimi ve aşamaları aktarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Buluntu ve atık nesneleri bir araya getirerek oluşturduğu çalışmalarından seçilmiş beş adet örnek üzerinden eser analizi yöntemi kullanılarak yorumlamalar yapılmıştır. Bu örneklerin yaratımında kullanılan malzemeler ile renk, doku, biçim, denge ve uyum gibi temel tasarım ilkeleri üzerinden değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Sonuç bölümü ile tamamlanan bu araştırmada Schwitters’in alternatif malzemeyi kullanarak yarattığı çalışma disiplini ile aslında neyi amaçladığı üzerinde durulmuştur. Sanatçının buradaki amacının, kullandığı basit sıradan nesneler yardımıyla oluşturduğu güçlü kompozisyonların disiplinler arası bir esere dönüşmesi isteği olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Araştırmada yer verilen bilgilerin ve elde edilen sonuçların üç boyutlu eser veren sanat alanları için faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
The concept of Merz, which emerged as a result of the artistic creation of Dadaist Kurt Schwitters, one of the avant-garde artists of art history, has turned into a personal art movement over time. Assemblages, categorized as “Merzbild” by the artist, represent a creative discipline in which alternative materials are transformed into three-dimensional works and therefore constitute the main purpose of the research. Content analysis and artwork analysis methods were used in the research. Literature searches were made regarding the events and situations that contributed to the artist's creative process and the point he reached as a result, and the topics thought to be necessary for the research were expressed in a theoretical way. Within the scope of the study, the emergence, development and stages of Merz, an interdisciplinary concept, were tried to be conveyed. Interpretations were made by using the artefact analysis method on five selected examples of his works created by combining found and waste objects. The materials used in the creation of these examples and basic design principles such as colour, texture, form, balance and harmony have been evaluated. In this research, which is completed with the conclusion section, it is emphasised what Schwitters’ actually aims with the working discipline he created by using alternative materials. It is possible to say that the artist's aim here is the desire to transform the strong compositions he created with the help of simple ordinary objects into an interdisciplinary work. The information and results presented in this research are believed to be beneficial for artistic fields involved in producing three-dimensional works.
