The drive for universal human rights brought with it the idea that racism and discrimination are issues that must be faced by states. This thinking has not only brought to our day the demand to develop policies and legislation, but also the obligation to set in motion national bodies that develop actions and establish measures for the study and diagnosis in order to ensure non-discrimination of all people residing in their territories. In this context, this article highlights some results derived from the exploration and analysis of written sources related to racial discrimination developed by the Spanish State over the last two decades. The text aims to approach the research and diagnosis model carried out in the fight against discrimination, with the intention of knowing what are the main theoretical and methodological perspectives implemented, besides pointing out some of the the limitations and gaps that these research models present. In particular, the analysis warns of the need to turn the models because, instead of capturing the complexity and diversity acquired by the practices of racial discrimination, they end up reinstalling and perpetuating the silence and invisibility of some racist experiences.
