Abstract:

Cinema is a widespread art sector that has been changing and developing since the 19th century. Cinema impresses the audience of the film with its remarkable scenarios, the characters that are connected with and the richness of visual elements. Cinema, in order to more clearly reflect the content and messages intended to be given in the film; It should provide integrity between the character and the costume. Basically, costume design provides communication between the actor and the audience. Costume, which is a visual and effective expression tool, is reinforced by providing integrity with accessories, hair and make-up. In the film industry, one of the media companies that successfully appeals to the audience with script and costume design is Disney. Disney is re-adapting the princess quotes to suit the current era. In this study, the costumes of the protagonist of the Princess Princess movie, one of the Disney princess quotes released in 2001, were analyzed using Barthes’ semiotic method. Content evaluation such as color, form, texture, pattern and ornament was carried out through the costumes of the protagonist. It is seen that including a small detail on the costume plays a major role in the message to be conveyed to the audience. The main character reflects his status, fashion sense, mentality and culture with his preferred costume in accordance with the plot. The costumes, which are in harmony with the changing life of the protagonist, ensured the establishment of a bond between the character and the audience. As a result, it was concluded that the costumes significantly affect the narrative and play a major role in conveying the message and meaning to the audience in the film.
