Abstract:

Education has an important power in the development of a country. For this reason, every country is trying to reform the education system and make it suitable for the conditions of the current age. The teacher is one of the most effective elements in the education system. The teaching profession requires not only cognitive but also affective features. The anxiety that teacher candidates develop towards finding a job can negatively affect their motivation and attitudes. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between teacher candidates’ anxiety about finding a job and their attitudes towards the teaching profession, and to make suggestions to educational theorists and practitioners. The universe of the research consists of teacher candidates studying in a city center with metropolitan status in Central Anatolia. 232 teacher candidates determined by purposive sampling method from this universe constitute the sample of the research. The research is in the relational survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. Data were collected using the “Attitude Scale Towards Teaching Profession” developed by Üstüner (2006), the “Unemployment Anxiety Level Scale” developed by Tekin (2015) and the personal information form prepared by the researchers. As a result of the research, it was seen that the unemployment anxiety levels of the teacher candidates were high, and as the anxiety level increased, the attitude towards the teaching profession decreased.
