Abstract:

Agriculture has been one of the dominant sectors of the country since ancient times due to Turkey's geography and its fertile lands. Within the provincial borders of Şanlıurfa, there are 9 plains that are taken under protection so that they are not used outside of agricultural production. However, the data obtained reveal that Şanlıurfa gives high rates of labor migration to different cities. Studies have concluded that this is due to the mechanization of agriculture, low wages, and lack of land ownership. In this study, using the labor migration data used in the YER-SİS project, the districts of Şanlıurfa province were examined in the context of agricultural labor migration, and migration flows were revealed. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the majority of the agricultural workforce needed in Şanlıurfa is met from within the province, but Şanlıurfa provides agricultural workforce to many provinces of Turkey.
