Abstract:

Due to its geographical location and geological structure, Türkiye frequently encounters various natural hazards, especially earthquakes, as well as technological disasters such as transportation accidents. In addition, biological disasters such as bird flu, swine flu and COVID-19 pandemics, which had affected the whole world in recent years, also caused serious losses in Türkiye. Many lives and property have been lost and significant economic and social losses have been incurred due to the disasters experienced in the past years. This fact clearly shows that Türkiye has not been able to reduce disaster risks sufficiently and that there are still many works to be done in all sectors. Hence the aim of this article is to provide information about the history of disaster and emergency management plans related to the health system and to give information about the general principles of disaster and emergency management plans that should be prepared for health institutions and their employees.
