Abstract:

This research was conducted to examine the effects of the dangers and risks the farmers affiliated to the Chamber of Agriculture face on the perception of health. The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 366 farmers affiliated with a province's chamber of agriculture in the Southeast Anatolia region. Data were collected using a descriptive form and a health perception scale. Student's t test, One Way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, multiple linear regression analysis were used to evaluate the data. Bonferroni and Tamhane’se analysis of post-hoc tests was performed. The mean of the Health Perception scale was 49.68±7.14. Farmers; A statistically significant difference was found between age, education level, social security, place of residence, family type, thinking about health, drug use and health perception scale (p<0.05). Socio-demographic variables explain 34% of the change in farmers' health perception scores (R²=0.343). Moreover; Health perceptions differ according to carrying and lifting weights over 10 kg, exposure to pesticides and dust, loss of attention while working, use of personal protective equipment, taking occupational health safety training and having a work accident (p<0.05). Farmers have a moderate level of perception of health. Community-based awareness studies should be carried out to increase farmers' health perceptions.
