Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine the perceived spousal support of pregnant women and the effect of this support on pregnancy symptoms. The population of the descriptive and relational study consisted of pregnant women who came to the obstetrics clinics of a university hospital in Central Anatolia between 1 July and 31 December 2021. The study was completed with 156 pregnant women. The data of the study were obtained by using the Personal Information Form, the Perception of Spousal Support in Pregnancy Scale (PSSPA), and the Pregnancy Symptom Inventory (PSI). It was determined that the mean age of the pregnant women was 26.9±5.2 and 63.5% were between the ages of 21-30. It was determined that the total mean score of the perception of spousal support of pregnant women was 61.5±14.9 and the mean score of the pregnancy symptom scale was 45.04±17.6. It was found that the relationship between the perceived spousal support sub-dimension and total score averages of the pregnants and the mean pregnancy symptoms score was not statistically significant (p>0.05). There is no relationship between perceived spousal support and pregnancy symptoms experienced by pregnant women. Age, education level of the pregnant woman and spouse, marriage type and duration and number of pregnancies affect the perceived spousal support of pregnant women. It can be suggested that the importance of social support, especially spousal support should be included in childbirth preparation trainings.
