Asaf Hâlet Çelebi is one of the most unusual poets of the 20th century Turkish literature with his poems. Though the readers of his poems make “strange”, “exantric” and “strange”, Chelebi has managed to create a unique and unimplicable style of poetry by transforming the personal readings of an extensive cultural geography from Anadolu to India into the subconscious. His intense cultural posts and the place of understanding of his poems containing surrealistic objects requires a particular effort of the reader. In addition to the poet’s identity, Chelebi, who also has a researcher personality, has signed important works in the literary translation and study style with the possibility of his knowledge of foreign languages. The various information he obtained during the reading and research process also reflected in his poetry with different appearances. This point shows the importance of intertext reading in understanding his poems. The study of the transformation of the elements from the subtext in the poetry of Çelebi is important for the interpretation of the poems. The purpose of this work is to show the poet’s portrait as an artist and to offer a new approach to the meaning of the poet’s name Kunâla by taking advantage of the theory of intertext relations.

Asaf Hâlet Çelebi is one of the most extraordinary poets of 20th century Turkish literature with his poems and lifestyle. Çelebi has succeed in creating a unique and inimitable style of poetry by transforming what he has acquired from his personal readings of a vast cultural geography which span from Anatolia to India.These readings change in the subconscious of Çelebi.  However the readers usually describe his poems "weird", "eccentric", "odd".  The readers have to make an effort for understanding his poems which contain intense cultural references and some surrealistic elements. In addition to his poet identity, Çelebi, who has an investigative personality, has put his signature under important works in form of literary translation and research by means of foreign language he knows. He has reflected the various information he got during the reading and research process to his poetry in different images. This situation shows the importance of intertextual reading for understanding his poems.The researchs of the transformation of subtext in Çelebi's poems is important for the analysis of poems. The aim of this study is to present the potrait of the poet as an artist and present a new approach to the meaning dimension of Asaf Hâlet Çelebi's Kunala poem by using the theory of intertextuality.
