Abstract:

The most commonly used strategies against the students’ misbehavior of the physical education teachers participating in the study are "Catch students being good and give praise" and "Give bonus points for good behavior". On the other hand, the least commonly used strategies are "Remove the student from the class" and "Corporal punishment". It is understood that new and younger teachers in the profession apply to the strategy of "Put the student in time-out" at a significantly higher rate than the more experienced and older teachers. Likewise, in terms of the frequency of use of the "Make them run a lap or do push-ups" strategy, new 1-5 years and younger age groups in the profession seem to prefer this strategy at a significant level. There are also differences in the implementation of the "Ignore the behavior" strategy in terms of sharing the same course environment and time with other branches of the school. It is clear that the use of the "Ignore the behavior" strategy has diminished when teachers instruct in crowded classes. Teachers in the crowded environment can be said to have more control over their students. In a similar situation, the "Lower student grade" strategy was encountered. As the class size and students’ misbehavior increase, teachers threaten the students who exhibit undesirable behaviours to lower their grades more often
