Abstract:

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between school principals 'leadership styles perceived by teachers and teachers' organizational cynicism attitudes, and to determine whether school principals the transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership styles predict teachers' organizational cynicism attitudes. A relational survey model was used in the research. The research was conducted in the 2017- 2018 academic year. The sample of the study is composed of different types of state schools affiliated to Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of National Education. The cluster sampling method was used to determine the sample of the study. 732 teachers participated in the study voluntarily. Information Form, School Principals Leadership Styles Scale, and Organizational Cynicism Scale were used in the study. In the analysis of the data, independent groups t-test, One-Way ANOVA, correlation and regression analyzes were performed. As a result of the analyzes, the transformational leadership styles of the school principals were found to be “high“and the teachers' organizational cynicism attitudes were “low’. While there is no significant difference between school principals 'perceived leadership styles and teachers' organizational cynicism attitudes according to their gender and professional seniority; significant differences were found according to school types. A significant relationship was found between the leadership styles of school principals and teachers' organizational cynicism attitudes. Finally, it was found that the leadership styles of school principals predicted organizational cynicism.
