Abstract:

Stamps were used as symbols of power, wealth and authority in various societies for many years. Stamps that were used from the time of Neolithic Age appeared as a natural necessity when people passed permanent settlement. In early years stamps were made of clay and earthenware; later, they were made from different stones such as simple, semi-precious and precious types. However, in advancing stages, they were made of metals and bones. The stamps bearing the quality to be a historical record in respect to descriptions and writings on them are important from the point of information they present about religious beliefs, social and cultural life that they represent. Stamps were also widely used by Urartians that lived between B.C. 900-600.
