Objective: To evaluate the level of internet and social media dependency level of students at Beyoğlu Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi (BAİHL), to investigate the relationship between dependency level and achievement and socio-demographic characteristics. Material and Method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive survey study. Totally 150 students, the ages between 14-18, in the Beyoğlu Anadolu Imam Hatip High School constitute the population of the study. Voluntary 108 students participated in the study and was completed in 6 months. The survey includes two scales measuring Internet and social media dependency, and the socio-demographic characteristics that are thought to be related. Results: The internet and social media dependency scales used in the study were found to have high internal consistency, reliable and valid results. Also found structural valid. The mean total score of Internet dependeny was 22.9 ± 8.1 and the mean total score for social media dependeny was 31.8 ± 11.6. There was no significant relation between internet and social media dependeny scores and first grade point average of students. In addition, social media dependeny score is significantly higher in those who used Facebook and Instagram. Those who use social media for entertainment purposes and those sparse worshipers have significantly higher internet and social media dependeny than others. Also the internet addiction was significantly lower in those who did continuous sports. Conclusions and Suggestions: It can be said that internet and social media dependency is lower in successful schools and successful students. In addition, it can be said that there is no internet / social media dependency in students who try to fulfill the requirements of religious belief.
