Yeni iletişim teknolojilerinin gelişim göstermesiyle birlikte meydana gelen dijital devrim her alanda etkisini hissettirmiştir. Bilgisayar, internet ve sayısal teknolojilerin varlığı ise yayıncılıkta kapsamlı bir dönüşüm yaşanmasını sağlamıştır. Web 2.0 adı verilen etkileşimli web teknolojisinin her yaştan her kesimden kullanıcıya ulaşması hız olgusunu da beraberinde getirmiştir. Geleneksel medyadan yeni medyaya evirilişle birlikte kitle iletişim araçlarının çehresi ise farklı bir yapıya bürünmüştür. Bu dönüşüm neticesinde kuşaklar arası farklar daha derinden hissedilmeye başlamıştır. Dijital yerli olarak ifade edilen Z Kuşağı, X ve Y Kuşağı’na oranla teknolojinin merkezinde doğmuş ve büyümüştür. Özellikle sosyal ağlara yoğun ilgi gösteren Z Kuşağı’nın video paylaşım sitelerindeki oranı da oldukça yüksektir. Ancak video paylaşım sitelerinde var olan pornografi, cinsellik, şiddet ve nefret içerikli unsurlar özellikle çocukların zihinsel ve fiziksel gelişimlerini olumsuz yönde etkilemekte, ebeveyn kontrolünün gerçekleşememesine neden olmaktadır. Bu sorunların çözebilmek adına Google tarafından YouTube Kids isimli bir uygulama geliştirilmiştir. YouTube Kids uygulaması aracılığıyla çocuklar zararlı içeriklerden korunabilmekte eğitici-öğretici içerikleri takip edebilmektedirler. Bu çalışmada YouTube Kids uygulamasına yönelik içerik analizi gerçekleştirilmiş ve üç farklı kanaldan seçilen üç video detaylı bir şekilde irdelenmiştir. YouTube Kids’in yeni medya kapsamında etkili bir uygulama olacağı ve çocukların gelişiminde önemli bir rol oynayacağı sonucu elde edilen bulgular neticesinde ortaya çıkmıştır.
The digital revolution that occurred with the development of new communication technologies has felt its influence in all areas. The presence of computers, the internet and digital technologies has led to a comprehensive transformation in publishing. The speed of interactive web technology called Web 2.0 has also led to the fact that it reaches users from all ages. With the evolution of the traditional media to the new media, the circle of the mass media means has been shaped into a different structure. As a result of this transformation, the differences between generations began to be felt deeper. The Z Generation, which is expressed as digital indigenous, is born and grown in the center of technology compared to the X and Y Generation. The proportion of Z Generation’s video sharing sites, especially for social networks, is quite high. However, the elements of pornography, sexuality, violence and hatred that exist on the video sharing sites, especially negatively affect the mental and physical development of children, cause parental control to fail. To solve these problems, Google has developed an app called YouTube Kids. With the YouTube Kids app, children can be protected from harmful content; they can follow educational and educational content. In this study, a content analysis for the YouTube Kids app was carried out and three videos selected from three different channels were detailed. YouTube Kids will be an effective application within the new media framework and will play an important role in the development of children.

As the interactive web technology called as Web 2.0 reached users of all ages and all walks of life, the phenomenon of speed came forth. With the evolution of the traditional media to new media, mass communication tools took a new shape. As a consequence of this transformation the differences between the generations became more apparent. The Generation Z, which is defined as digital-native, was born and raised in the center of technology compared to the Generation X and the Generation Y. Being particularly enthusiastic about the social networks, the Generation Z uses the video sharing sites intensely. However, the pornographic, sexual, violent and hatred content on these platforms have a negative influence especially on the mental and physical development of children and parental control is not really possible. In order to solve these problems an application called YouTube Kids was developed by Google. In addition to protect children from harmful content, the YouTube Kids application also allows them to follow educative and instructive content. In this study, a content analysis of three videos selected from three different channels on YouTube Kids was conducted. The results showed that YouTube Kids will be an influential application as a part of the new media and it will play an important role in the development of children.
