Abstract:

Archetypal symbolism, developed by Carl Gustav Jung, is one of the methods used in the study of folk narratives. Based on Jung’s work, Joseph Campbell developed his own method and examined the narratives of different communities in this context. The basis of Campbell’s method is based on the concept of “monomite”. It is known that these two names usually come to the fore in studies where folk narratives are handled symbolically and their thoughts are applied to the text. In this study, the tale named Dülger Kızı is examined in terms of archetypal symbolism in order to trace the collective unconscious in a different narrative type. In addition, the hero's journey stages are discussed in the context of the test given by the hero of the tale in order to harmonize the contradictory features and integrate with himself. Within the scope of the study, besides witnessing the maturation process of the hero in the Dülger Kızı tale, it was seen that the anima, mother and supreme individual protagonists played a leading role in the plot. In this context, the anima archetype dominates the tale, and the anima also represents the mother archetype in the depths of the prince’s soul. Therefore, the tale is a symbolic expression of the prince’s coming out of childhood – separating from his mother – and becoming adult.
