Abstract:

This research aims to determine the level of sufficiency of the education received on the basis of pre-service education on subject matter, professional knowledge and the objectives of the curriculum of social sciences education, and to determine the level of the need for a new in-service education for these fields. This research is quantitative research with a descriptive relational survey model. In this context, the data collection tool that compares the pre-service education of social sciences teachers based on various variables applied to the social sciences teachers working in Hatay city. Depending on the findings, social sciences teachers stated that they need a new training in terms of “social sciences knowledge” and “professional knowledge” in a “medium level”. On the other hand, social sciences teachers stated that they need training on the subjects such as information technology, media and economy as well as on the project development, effective use of the information technologies, and practices that take into account individuals with special needs. In this direction, it is recommended to determine the needs of the teachers in service and to update the undergraduate curricula in the faculties in the context of pre-service education based on these needs analysis.
