Abstract:

Management Information Systems (MIS) was first established in Turkey in 1995 at Boğaziçi University, and today, at least undergraduate-level education is provided in approximately 80 universities. Today, "Management Information Systems" has taken its place as an important and necessary discipline by completing its development in a way that will sit on solid ground in the business and informatics world. However, the importance of MIS discipline has not been sufficiently understood in the business world, public opinion and academic world. In this direction, to provide an overview by examining the current situation of MIS discipline in Turkey, the opinions of students studying in the Department of Management Information Systems in Turkey, job postings, graduate theses, educational information of faculty members working in MIS, and departments of MIS were evaluated. After the evaluations, various suggestions were presented by emphasizing that students with various job opportunities in different fields should be supported more in their career planning, especially the content of elective courses should be suitable for market needs, more focus should be given to practical education. In addition, the importance of having MIS-based academic staff in the relevant departments has been mentioned.
