Abstract:

People have used different ways from the early ages to obtain the goods or services they need but cannot produce. The exchange method used in the early days, depending on the correspondence of needs, has left its place to different payment methods as time passes. The exchange method was followed by payments with valuable mines such as gold, silver and copper. In the subsequent periods, in terms of ease of use, these valuable mines were replaced by paper coins. Payments with paper currencies have been made easier and people have been able to satisfy their needs faster. By the 21st century, crypto currencies showed significant changes in the structure of the currency. Cryptocurrencies, one of the most effective outcomes of the global structure that information technology enables, has also opened a new phenomenon that will change the definition and structure of the currency. In a time when communication is so easy and fast globally, the possibility of digital transfer of material assets has revealed blockchain technology, and this technology has made it possible for cryptocurrencies to emerge. With the technological transformation, the digitalization of banking and payment systems and the adaptation of individuals to this transformation, the non-cash payments society is becoming more and more closer. Today, mobile payments, cash-free shop experience, blockchain technologies are beginning to understand how human money has changed in the historic process. In this study, it was first pointed out what money meant and discussed its characteristics. It has been discussed for the time since the first time the money was used until today. In particular, it has been more focused on the cryptocurrency system, which has emerged in recent years and is seen as a completely new state of money. At the end of today’s technology, the outcomes of the future of the cryptocurrency market are also included in the study.
