Osmanlı’dan Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemine Van Yerel Basınının Temelleri: 1858-1939

Osmanlı’nın son dönemlerinde Van’da çok sayıda gazetenin yayınladığı bilinmektedir. Bu anlamda Van kentinde bilinen ilk yerel gazete 1858 yılında yayın hayatına başlayan Ermenice ‘Ardzvi Vasburagan’ (Van Kartalı)’dır. Van’da yayınlanan ilk Türkçe gazete ise 1893’te yayın hayatına başlayan ‘Van’ gazetesidir. Meşrutiyet’in getirdiği basın özgürlüğünden yararlanmak isteyen bazı Osmanlı vatandaşları, Van’da Türkçe, Kürtçe ve Ermenice yayın yapacak ‘İttihat’ ile ‘Mebde-i Feyz’ isimli gazeteleri çıkarmak için girişimlerde bulunmuşlardır. Van’da Ermeniler tarafından 1858’den 1915 yılına kadar 27 Ermenice gazete ve dergi yayınlanmıştır. Aşkhadank (Emek), Van-Dosb (Van Tuşpa), Luys (Işık) bu gazetelerden bazılarıdır. Dönemin önemli gazetelerinden biri de ‘Çaldıran’dır. Birinci Dünya Savaşının başlamasına denk gelen yıllarda büyük zorluklarla yayın hayatını sürdürmeye çalışan Çaldıran gazetesi, Van’ın Ruslar tarafından işgal edilmesiyle 1915 yılının sonlarına doğru yayın hayatına son vermiştir. Bu tarihten itibaren Van’da basın faaliyetleri tamamen bitmiş ve Cumhuriyet kurulduktan sonra ilk yerel gazete ancak 1937’de yayın hayatına başlayan Yeni Yurd Van gazetesi olmuştur. 1939 yılında yayın hayatına başlayan bir diğer gazete ise Van’dır. Her iki gazete de, dönemin şartları itibariyle, her ne kadar resmi devlet söyleminin dışına çıkmamışlarsa da Van kentinde yerel basın kültürünün oluşmasında önemli roller üstlenmişlerdir. Bu çalışma ile günümüzde günlük, haftalık ve aylık periyotlarla yayın yapan çok sayıda gazete ve dergi ile oldukça renkli bir görünüme sahip olan Van yerel basınının temellerinin ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Van kentinde ilk basın faaliyetlerinin başladığı Osmanlı devletinin son dönemi ile Cumhuriyet’in ilanından sonra çıkan ilk gazete ve dergiler çalışmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Sözü edilen dönemde yayınlanan gazete ve dergilerin yayın politikaları, sahiplik yapıları ve yayınlandıkları dönemdeki olayları ne şekilde aktardıkları incelenmiştir.

It is known that many newspapers have been published in the last period of Ottoman. In this sense, the first local newspaper known in the city of Van is the Armenian 'Ardzvi Vasburagan' (Van Bear) which began its broadcasting life in 1858. The first Turkish newspaper published in Van was the "Van" newspaper, which began its publication in 1893. Some Ottoman citizens, who want to take advantage of the freedom of the press brought by the legitimacy, have made an attempt to release newspapers called 'Mebde-i Feyz' and 'Ittihat' that will be published in Turkish, Kurdish and Armenian in Van. From 1858 to 1915 there were 27 Armenian newspapers and magazines published by the Armenians. Aşkhadank (Emek), Van-Dosb (Van Tushpa), Luys (Light) are some of these newspapers. One of the most important newspapers of the time is the “Theft”. In the years that matched the beginning of the First World War, the Chaldyran newspaper, trying to continue its broadcasting life with great difficulties, ended its broadcasting life by the end of 1915 with the Russian occupation of Van. From this date, the press activities in Van have completely ended and the first local newspaper after the Republic was the New Yurd Van newspaper, which began its broadcasting life in 1937. Another newspaper that began its publication in 1939 is Van. Both newspapers, according to the circumstances of the period, although they were not out of the official state speech, have taken an important role in the formation of the local press culture in the city of Van. With this study, it is intended to reveal the foundations of the Van local press, which has a very colorful appearance with numerous newspapers and magazines that today publish daily, weekly and monthly periods. The last period of the Ottoman state in which the first press activities began in the city of Van and the first newspapers and magazines that came out after the announcement of the Republic are the subject of the work. The newspapers and magazines published in the aforementioned period have been studied how they translate publication policies, ownership structures and events in the period they were published.

The first Turkish newspaper published in Van was the "Van" newspaper, which started its publication life in 1893. Some Ottoman citizens, who wanted to take advantage of the freedom of press brought by the Second Constitutional Monarchy, made attempts to publish the newspapers "İttihat" and "Mebde-i Feyz", which would broadcast in Turkish, Kurdish and Armenian. From 1858 to 1915, 27 Armenian newspapers and magazines were published by Armenians in Van. Ashhadank, Van-Dosb, Luys are some of these newspapers. One of the important newspapers of the period was "Çaldıran". Çaldıran newspaper, which was trying to continue its publication life with great difficulties in the years that coincided with the start of the First World War, ended its publication life towards the end of 1915 with the occupation of Van by the Russians. As of this date, the press activities in Van were completely finished and the first local newspaper after the establishment of the Republic was Yeni Yurd Van newspaper, which started its publication life only in 1937. Another newspaper that started its publication life in 1939 is Van. Although both newspapers did not go beyond the official state discourse due to the conditions of the period, they played an important role in the formation of the local press culture in the city of Van. With this work; Today, it is aimed to reveal the foundations of the Van local press, which has a very colorful appearance, with many newspapers and magazines broadcasting daily, weekly and monthly. The subject of the study is the last period of the Ottoman state, where the first press activities started in the city of Van, and the first newspapers and magazines published after the proclamation of the Republic. The publishing policies, ownership structures of the newspapers and magazines published in the mentioned period and how they conveyed the events in the period they were published were examined.
