Abstract:

The role of the Ottoman in the world economy as a political and economic actor began to increase from the middle of the fifteenth century and its importance continued until the middle of the nineteenth century. As an important central power in the world, the Ottoman government promoted economic and commercial activities in the broad geography controlled and managed to create a "world economy" itself within the boundaries of the empire. Despite promoting both regional and international trade, domestic trade has always been statistically more important than foreign trade. In the same period, Western European trade forces have also increased their activities in the world economy and trade. In this process, the center of the European world economy was recorded from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. Over the past two hundred years, the Atlantic has played a central role in the world economy. But at the end of the twentieth century, new important economic powers began to emerge in the world far from the Atlantic. The center of the world economy is changing. This article from Ottoman to today aims to discuss some dynamics in the change of the world’s economic center and powers.
