Abstract:

Ageing is a process of physiological, mental and social changes. With the increase in lifetime, the decrease in fertility rates and the increase in access to healthcare, the elderly population is increasing throughout the world and in Turkey. The growth of the population will need to meet the health and social needs of the ageing. Therefore, the knowledge of the physiological, spiritual and social characteristics of the ageing period becomes important in terms of the planning and provision of appropriate services to the elderly. The knowledge of the periodic characteristics of the elderly may remain insufficient to meet their needs. Because reasons such as the excess of the elderly population, the increasing number, the possessed multiple chronic diseases and the absence of some elderly out of the home and the condition of service will be an excessive burden on the health system. The aim of this study is to provide recommendations for protection by addressing the health problems seen in individuals associated with ageing.
