Abstract:

Abstract: The research was carried out to determine the effects of modern flute techniques that are prominent in 20th century music, on sight reading skills of flute students. The study group was determined by purposeful sampling method in the study designed in accordance with the pre-test-post-test control group model. In the study group, a total of 20 flute students (experimental group n = 10, control group n = 10) studying at Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Education, Department of Music Education were included. The students in both the experiment and control groups were asked sight read the pieces as a pretest. While studies involving modern techniques were carried out with the students in the experimental group for 4 months, the said studies were not conducted with the students in the control group. As a result of the experiment, sight reading skills of the experimental and control group students were compared. In the analysis of the difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group and the control group, the independent samples t-test; in the analysis of the difference between the experimental group's pre-test and post-test and the control group's pre-test and post-test scores, the t-test for the related samples was used. As a result of the research, when the pre-test and post-test mean scores of both groups were examined, it was determined that the experimental group showed more improvement compared to the control group.
