Abstract:

In the beginning of the problematic issues that disabled individuals encounter and must overcome when entering the work life, the negative attitudes of employers come. The main objective of this study is to study the views of employers or managers in the housing sector on disabled employment. The universe of the research is defined as employers in the accommodation sector that operates in Turkey. The workplace is formed by employers in the residential sector that operates in Mersin. The data of the study, within the framework of the quality research, were made in the form of face-to-face interviews, by applying a semi-configured interview form to 20 participants, including employers in the accommodation sector located in Mersin. However, the data obtained were made concrete and evaluated within the framework of visual analysis. The research has found that employers or managers who are concerned with employment have positive opinions about disabled employment, but they often find that the working conditions for disabled employment are not appropriate. The study also found that disabled individuals have advantages such as attracting customers to, but they have disadvantages such as decrease in efficiency, customer dissatisfaction and increased costs, especially due to their physical disadvantages. One important point in the employment of disabled persons is the incentives. In this regard, the general opinion is that the incentives given by the state are insufficient and that more incentives to the employment of persons with disabilities are needed.
