Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı, TÜBİTAK 4004 Doğa Eğitimi ve Bilim Okulları programı kapsamında gerçekleştirilen “Bilimden Doğaya, Doğadan Bilime: Problemlere Çözümler” projesinde yapılan etkinliklerin, öğrencilerin kimya dersine yönelik tutumlarına ve dokuzuncu sınıf kimya dersinde kazandıkları bilgileri günlük yaşam ile ilişkilendirme derecelerine etkilerini belirlemektir. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden kontrol grupsuz yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2017-2018 öğretim yılında Düzce ili merkez liselerinin dokuzuncu sınıfı bitiren ve araştırmaya gönüllü katılan 28 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada öğrencilere fizik, kimya, biyoloji, çevre ve matematik alanlarında toplam 16 etkinlik yaptırılmıştır ve bu etkinliklerin 4’ü kimya ile ilgilidir. Etkinlikler, katılımcıların günlük yaşamlarında karşılaşabilecekleri problem durumlarına göz önüne alınarak, araştırma, sorgulama ve öğrenme isteklerinin tetiklenmesini sağlayacak biçimde hazırlanmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak “Kimya Dersine Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği” ile kimya derslerinde edindikleri bilgileri günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirme derecelerine (“hiç ilişkili değil=1” ile “tamamen ilişkili =10”) göre değerlendirmelerinin istendiği bir anket kullanılmıştır. Bu veri toplama araçları araştırmanın başlangıcında ve sonunda katılımcılara uygulanarak veriler toplanmıştır. Toplanan veriler parametrik olmayan istatistik tekniklerinden bağımlı gruplar için kullanılan Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada yapılan kimya alanındaki etkinliklerin, öğrencilerin kimya dersine yönelik tutumlarını olumlu yönde geliştirmede ve kimya dersinde edindikleri bilgileri günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirme derecelerini arttırmada olumlu etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to identify the effects of the activities carried out in the project "From Science to Nature, From Nature to Science: Solutions to Problems" carried out within the framework of the TÜBİTAK 4004 Nature Education and Scientific Schools program, the attitudes of students towards the chemistry course and the degree of association of the information they gain in the ninth class chemistry course with daily life. In the research, the control methods of quantum research were used semi-experimental patterns without group. The research work group consists of 28 students who completed the ninth class of the Düzce ili Central High School in the 2017-2018 academic year and participated voluntarily in the research. The study conducted a total of 16 events in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, environment and mathematics, and 4 of these activities are related to chemistry. The events are prepared in such a way as to trigger research, query and learning desires, taking into account the problem situations that participants may encounter in their daily lives. The study used a survey in which they were required to evaluate the information they obtained in chemistry classes as a data collection tool according to their level of association with everyday life ("no related=1" and "fullly related =10"). These data collection tools were collected by applying data to the participants at the beginning and at the end of the research. The collected data has been analyzed by the Wilcoxon Signed sequence test used for groups dependent on non-parametric statistical techniques. The study found that the activities in chemistry have a positive impact on the development of students’ attitudes towards the chemistry course in a positive direction and increasing their degree of association with everyday life with the information they obtain in the chemistry course.

This study aims to determine the effects of the activities performed in the project "From Science to Nature, From Nature to Science: Solutions to Problems" carried out within the scope of TÜBİTAK 4004 Nature Education and Science Schools program, on students' attitudes towards chemistry course and the extent they associate the knowledge gained in the 9th grade chemistry course with daily life. The study utilizes quasi-experimental design without a control group, which is a quantitative research method. The study group of the research consists of 28 students who completed 9th grade of high schools in the central district of Düzce, who participated in the study voluntarily. Within the scope of the research, the students performed a total of 16 activities in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, environment and mathematics, four of which about chemistry. The activities were prepared in a way to trigger the participants to research, question and learn about the problem situations, taking into account the problems they encounter in their daily lives. In the study, as data collection tools, the "Attitude Scale towards Chemistry Lessons" and a survey in which they were asked to evaluate the degrees of associating the knowledge they gained in chemistry lessons with daily life, "not at all related = 1" and "completely related = 10" were used. Data were collected by applying these data collection tools to the participants at the beginning and end of the study. The collected data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test, which is a non-parametric statistical technique used for dependent groups. As a result, it was determined that the activities carried out in the field of chemistry during the research process had a positive effect on improving students' attitudes towards chemistry course in a positive manner and increased their degree of associating the knowledge gained in chemistry lesson with daily life.
