Abstract:

Curricula and textbooks, are given importance in acquiring entrepreneurship skills to new generations in the education system. From this point of view, the current study aims to examine how the subject of entrepreneurship is handled on the basis of economy in the Social Studies textbooks prepared according to the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum (SSC) and to make some suggestions for the future textbooks. The main materials of this study, which was designed as qualitative research, consist of 4 textbooks currently taught at the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade levels of primary and secondary schools. In order to collect data on the subject of the study from these textbooks, document analysis method was used. Collected data were analysed with the content analysis technique. As a result of the content analysis of these textbooks, it has been understood that children, who are still at the beginning of their educational life, are tried to be raise awareness about entrepreneurship from various aspects. In this context, the concepts of need, enterprise and invention, characteristics of entrepreneurs, exemplary entrepreneurs, main areas of economic activity, choice of profession and professions of the future have been key themes in the examined textbooks.
