Abstract:

The era we live in has witnessed important developments in many scientific, economic, social and cultural fields. The rapid progress of technological developments and the irresistible change of the world have a great role in the significant developments. Especially with the effect of the Covid-19 epidemic, education systems have also been affected by this change and the distance education process has gained great importance. Since self-efficacy belief is accepted as a general and situation-specific belief, evaluations of one's own skills can be evaluated according to the current environment and time. Moving from this development in the education system, the aim of this study was determined as "examination of the general self-efficacy levels of the education faculty students in the distance education process". In this context, in the research A quantitative method and a causal comparative model were preferred. The universe of the research consists of "Inonu University Education Faculty Students", and the sample consists of 584 participants determined by the random stratified sampling method from the population. The data in the study were collected with the “General Self-Efficacy Scale”. The obtained data were subjected to independent groups t-test, one-way ANOVA and descriptive statistics tests. The findings of the research revealed that students' "self-efficacy levels" are high and they prefer distance education to face-to-face education. It was found that students' general self-efficacy levels did not differ statistically according to gender, class and field variables. Significant differences are found in the number of people participating in distance education at home, the type of internet access, study room and residence. Based on these results, some suggestions were presented within the scope of the study: The most problematic issues in distance education are the inadequacy of the internet infrastructure and the lack of internet infrastructure in rural areas. This result is expected by everyone in this context. In order to overcome this situation, some studies can be carried out by the authorities directly via satellite or by strengthening the networks without the need for infrastructure. In addition, for all students living in rural areas, the internet infrastructure used in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education can be strengthened and made available to students at all levels.
