Abstract:

The idea of sustainable development seeks solutions to environmental problems with more economic approaches, especially in the last quarter century. Environmental protection and environmental development policies are guided by the economic instruments of the market mechanism by market approaches. Economic instruments are successful in producing sharp solutions in the short term. However, in a way that will make the positive effects of the economic tools that produce solutions long-term, ensure their permanence and overcome the difficulties of the economic approach, in the name of environmental protection and development, it is essential to adopt individual attitudes and behavior patterns within the framework of ethical boundaries. There is a need for an individual perspective with environmental awareness and for the environmental awareness to be moved from the individual dimension to the social dimension. As an example of market solutions, this study examines the pricing of plastic bags implemented in Turkey in 2019. Apart from the main objectives of the regulation, such as reducing plastic poschette pollution and contributing to the zero waste project, possible contributions to environmental awareness are evaluated with a survey study to be applied to Kafkas University students.
