Abstract:

The coronavirus, which started in China's Wuhan province in December 2019 and spread rapidly all over the world, caused multifaceted recessions in the global market. The global slowdown in consumption, production, investment and retail sales during the quarantine period has greatly affected foreign trade and intra-industry trade between countries. Since it is not clear how long the ongoing epidemic will last, it remains unclear when the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic will end and what new changes it will bring. The continuing uncertainty has also affected consumer practices and consumer behavior. The main purpose of the study is to investigate how and in what direction the intra-industry trade activities of China and Turkey changed before and after the Covid-19 Pandemic. In this context, China and Turkey's EIT levels and product-based EIT values were calculated using the Grubel-Lloyd index during 2015-2021. As a result of the measurements made with the Grubel-Lloyd Index (weighted average), it was determined that the ECO level between China and Turkey was realized in many product groups, especially on a product basis. It has been observed that intra-industry trade between China and Turkey focuses on textile-ready-made clothing and motor-motor vehicle intermediate goods.
