Abstract:

Sustainability is highly important in terms of economic, environmental and social components in order for health enterprises to maintain their existence, to minimize their costs without harming the ecosystem they are in, and to provide quality and efficient service in the rapidly increasing competitive environment in the world with globalization. It is important and valuable for all healthcare professionals to understand the value of the notion of sustainability and to contribute to this process. With this study, it is aimed to make firm the role and attitudes of the personnel on sustainability and sustainability reporting in Akyazı State Hospital that is operating in Akyazı district of Sakarya. In this study, data and findings were obtained by using the systematic approach, also that is known as "embedded theory", developed by Strauss and Corbin (1998), one of the qualitative research designs, as the method of this study in Akyazı district of Sakarya. In this sense, face-to-face interviews were gradually conducted with 14 health personnel in November-December 2022 and data were collected. In the literature review, no previous research was found on the determination of staff attitudes on sustainability reporting in hospitals. As a result of the study, it was determined that the attitudes of health personnel on sustainability were positive. In this context, it has been determined that the personnel working in order to protect the environment, provide financial benefits to the institution and the country, and leave a better universe for the next generations, appropriately decompose the wastes generated in the area where they work, provide recycling and try to make positive contributions to the processes. It is suggested that employees should be informed more about sustainability reporting, on the job training and public information activities should be increased.
