Abstract:

There is a need to develop and present quality STEM activities that are open to free access and that are created for the use of teachers, researchers, and teacher candidates who will implement STEM education. The aim of this research is to develop a unique STEM activity on indicator making within the scope of Class 8 acids and bases and present the details of this activity. The process of developing the activity started with the determination of the subject and the problem situation. While determining the activity topic, attention was paid to the fact that it is a subject that students have difficulty understanding, that studentshave misconceptions about, that contains a problem that students may encounter in their daily lives, and that can be sustained with the steps of the engineering design process. In this context, it has been decided that the subject of Class 8 acids and bases is appropriate. The activity prepared was designed in accordance with the Engineering Design Process (EDP) steps developed by NASA. In this article, the steps of the event are presented in detail. While developing the activity, various applications and instructions were prepared for each of the stages of EDP to identify the problem, to research the problem, to develop possible solutions, to choose the best solution, to make the prototype, to test and evaluate the solution/s, and to present the solution/s and reconstruct them. In this article, the relevant steps of the activity were presented in detail, and various suggestions were made for the practitioners.
