İnsanların kullanımına sunulan birçok yeni teknolojik altyapının sergilediği kolaylık ve kullanışlığı gölgeleyebilecekönemli etkenlerin başında, bilgi ve bilgisayar güvenliği gelmektedir. Elektronik sigortacılık, 1996’da Java’nın kullanıma başlanmasıyla gelişen e-ticaretin bir alt dalı konumundadır. E-sigortacılık, sigortalının ihtiyaçlarına yönelik poliçeler hazırlanmasına, aradaki iletişimin daha kısa zamanda kurulmasına, teminatın esneklikle belirlenmesine ve risk idaresi desteğinin daha etkili olmasına imkân sağlamanın yanında, internetin herkese açık bir ağ olması beraberinde güvenlik sorununu getirmektedir.
