Abstract:

In this study genetic algorithms which are an artificial intelligence model are examinated. Processing steps and working principle of genetic algorithms which is one of the sub-concepts of evolutionary algorithms and based on the genetic evolution process are described and a genetic algorithm model on their utilization on architectural area is studied. Within this scope, the domestic architecture in İzmir has been surveyed because of that it is home to many different ethnic groups from past to present and because of its conveying the architectural elements of these different ethnic groups clearly. İzmir domestic architecture have been examined under three headings: Turkish house, Greek house and Levantine house and then their architectural characteristics have been determined. Being used these informations, it is exemplified how to construct a genetic algorithm model for architectural design, how to regulate the initial inputs and how to obtain the first genotype pool.
