Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to determine adolescents’ attitude of social media and whether their attitude concerning social media is differentiated according to gender, secondary and high school education, school type and level of class. In research, descriptive survey model was used. The population of this research consists of secondary public schools’ 8th grade students and public high schools’ 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students in Çekmeköy, İstanbul in 2012-2013 school years. The sample of this research consists of 735 students chosen by using simple random, disproportional clustersampling method. “Social Media Attitude Scale” was used for the analysis of the data. According to the mean and standard deviation which was calculated in order to determine the adolescents’ attitudes in relation to social media, it can be said that students’ attitude in relation to social media is at a high level and they improve a positive attitude against social media. It can be said that students’ attitude in relation to social media does not demonstrate a significant difference in terms of their gender. It is discovered that the total points that students have gained from social media attitude scale does not demonstrate important differences when they are evaluated in terms of gender. However, remarkable differences have been detected when the total points the students have gained from social media attitude scale are evaluated in terms of the level of education - elementary or high school education – school type and level of class
