Bu makalede, Kaşgarlı mahmud'un Divanü Lügat't-Türk adlı eserinde kullanılan atasözleri ve şiirlerde, önce, "niçin ahlaklı olmalıyız?" gibi bazı metaetik sorunların cevapları aranmış, daha sonra, övülen erdemler (ve kınanan erdemsizlikler) tasnif edilip kısaca açıklanmış, son olarak da erdemle bağlantılı olarak yüceltilen bilge kişi ve bilgelik konuları irdelenmiştir.
