Abstract:

Old age, which is a stage of human life, is a period in which the individual loses their social role in society and experiences disability, and therefore the need for social support increases. Elderly neglect and abuse emerge as the most important problems experienced during this period. It is seen that the negligence and abuse of elderly people as a social problem does not have sufficient visibility at the level of politics and society. However, studies show that elderly care and rehabilitation place a serious economic and social burden on society and emphasize the importance of preventing abuse before it even occurs. In the study, it is aimed to provide information about the scope, importance, objectives and prevention interventions of elderly neglect and abuse prevention practices. It is aimed to inform both the elderly and the community by providing information about prevention practices, as well as to contribute to policy regulations on the issue. In the study, it is determined that elder abuse is a long-term process and that multidimensional and multidisciplinary work is more effective in intervening in elder abuse. As a result, it is thought that the study would contribute to the sustainability of social well-being by protecting older people from abuse and supporting their social functionality.
