Introduction: Researches related to the anthropometric and morphological measures of soccer main referees (MR) and assistant (AR) are still very rare, specially related to the northern and northeastern of Brazil. Aim: To analyze and compare the morphological and anthropometric characteristics of MR and AR professionals in the state of Paraíba. Materials and Methods: In a comparative and cross-sectional study, main (n=12) and assistant referees (n=9) from the Paraiba Soccer Confederation underwent to anthropometric measures (body mass, height, circumferences and skinfolds) in order to characterize the body composition and somatotype. Results were expressed by mean and standard deviation. Independent t test was used to compare MR and AR. Data were analyzed on SPSS 20.0 and statistical significance was set as p<0.05. Furthermore, a somatochart for each category of referees was obtained, and was used the Somatotype Attitudinal Distance analysis. Results: There were no significant differences between the categories of referees for anthropometric and somatotype variables (p>0.05). There was a predominance of mesomorph and endomorph components for both MR (4.8-7.5-10) and AR (4.5-7.3-0.7). Conclusion: There was similarity of morphological and anthropometrical aspects between MR and AR. The results suggest the specific work has low influence on analyzed components.
