Abstract:

In today's world, where the life expectancy is extended and the demographic structure expands towards the ceiling in favor of the elderly, the elderly population constitutes a large part of the population. On the other hand, factors such as the decrease in the producer-young population, women who play an active role in care moving away from the home by entering the working life, the spread of individual lifestyles, moving away from religious and moral values, and modernization make it necessary to reconsider the issue of care, which poses a mass threat today and in the future. Since the second half of the 20th century, the issue of elderly care has attracted the attention of many people and has been tried to be examined from various perspectives by different disciplines. As the subject also includes a religious obligation, it is deemed appropriate to examine the matter in terms of Islamic law and it is desired to contribute to the field, albeit to a small extent. In this context, it is aimed to determine whether the elderly have the right to be cared for in accordance with Islamic law, if there is, the principles that form the basis of these rights and the people who are responsible for care are tried to be found. As a result of the research, it has been concluded that the care and surveillance of people at every stage of life is ordered and the responsibility of elder care begins from the person himself and expands to the people, including the whole society and the state.
