Abstract:

Hacı Bektaş Velî is a leading Turkish figure and Islamic scholar who came from Horasan and settled at Sulucakaracahöyük, and who had an important role in Turkifying and Islamising Anatolia. He devoted his life to Islam, Koran and to humanity. He explained the main principles of Islam, especially faith, worship and morals. The messages that he gave to the Turkish-Islamic society and to the world about religious, morals, social and cultural subjects still preserve their liveliness. On the one hand, Hacı Bektaş Velî illuminated the darkness through his life and works; on the other hand, he gained the love of people with his love and clemency. He tried for the elimination of hostility and for living in peace and serenity throughout his entire life. By saying “whatever you seek, seek it in yourself” he advised to behave responsibly instead of blaming others. Through sayings such as “see the seventy two nations as equal” and “Do not forget that even your enemy is a human” he exhibited the value that he gave to humans. By saying “let’s be one, great and vigorous”, he leaded the way of uniting opportunities. In order to attain this, he invited all people by saying “Come souls, let us be one.” It would be useful to understand him and his messages these days in which his messages and doctrines are most needed. This study tries to reach this purpose.
