Abstract:

Title: Evaluation of patient conformity in type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment Summary: Purpose: This study was carried out with the aim of determining patient conformity in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) treatment. Tools and Methods: The research was carried out at the endocrinology clinic of a foundation university hospital in Ankara. The study included 303 individuals over the age of 18 who were monitored with type 2 DM diagnosis, using oral antidiabetic drugs or insulin, who were able to communicate orally and participate in the study for a year. In the collection of data, the question form and "Type 2 DM Treatment Patient Compliance Scale" were used. The average age of patients is 61.68±11.26, with more than half of women (57.1 percent), married (76.9 percent), retired or unemployed (77.2 percent). 49 per cent of patients. The 2nd degree is university and higher. Most patients received the type 2 DM diagnosis more than six years ago (68.6%) and were taking more than three medications a day (69) and had an additional disease (81.2%). The scale score average (77.69 ± 10.73) indicates that the patient's harmony is on a medium level. The number of medications taken per day is more than 3 and patients who do not take a diet have a lower treatment harmony (p<0,05). The study shows that the patient’s therapeutic harmony is moderate, the number of medications used increases, the therapeutic harmony is negative, the dieters’ harmony is higher. The nurse is advised to evaluate individuals with diabetes in terms of treatment compliance, plan appropriate initiatives and monitor its effectiveness.
