Cinema is a major industry that concerns production, distribution, show companies, individuals working in these companies and the cinema audience in consumer position with its economic size. The operations in this large-scale industry have come to a complete stop with the preventive banes taken as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic that occurred in China’s city of Wuhan. In addition to the measures taken under the pandemic, the worldwide film industry, including the United States and China, has been damaged and the Turkish film industry has also been affected. Starting from the assumption that this effect was formed, the purpose of the study was to reveal the economic effects of the crisis created by the Covid-19 epidemic on the Turkish cinema industry. In accordance with this objective, the number of viewers in Turkey between 2015-2020 years, film earnings, number of insured workers working in the sector, the cinema halls and the number of seats in the categories of the film industry variables have been assessed by the document review technique. The findings from the evaluation showed that the Turkish film industry in the Covid-19 process experienced economic losses and was in a fragile structure. In this regard, in order to overcome the current crisis and to reduce the damages that possible future crises may cause, it is proposed to effectively use reactive and proactive approaches in the sector.

Cinema, with its economic size, is a large industry that concerns production, distribution, and presentation companies, individuals working in these companies and cinema audience. The functioning of this large industry has come to a complete halt with the preventive bans taken because of the Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan, China. With the measures taken within the scope of the pandemic, the cinema industries around the world, especially the USA and China, were damaged and the Turkish cinema industry was also affected by this damage. Based on the assumption that this effect occurred, it was determined as the aim of the study to reveal the economic effects of the Covid-19 epidemic on the Turkish cinema industry. Through the technique of document review, data obtained regarding the cinema sector such as the number of viewers of the 2015-2020 years, film revenues, the number of insured employees working in the sector, the number of cinema venues and seats have been examined and reported within the scope of the economic process that the movie industry has gone through during the Covid-19 process.
