Abstract:

This article aims to compare the criticisms of Suat Derwish and Behice Boran in the early 1940s. Suat Derviş, a novel writer, has written a novel criticism in the New Literature magazine, and the sociologist Behice Boran has written a novel criticism in the Yurt and World magazine, which he has published with a group of friends. The two women, one writer and the other sociologist; the criticism of Halide Edip Adıvar's Tatarcık novel in the same period, provides a stunning data that needs to be addressed in the context of women's literature and literary criticism. In the article, the similarities and differences in Suat Derwish and Behice Boran's novel criticism are analyzed by taking Halide Edip's Tatarcık novel to the center. In their novel criticisms, which they wrote from the eye of social realistic literature criticism, they looked at whether Suat Derviş and Behice Boran's novel characters were a typical example of their social environments, they sought social benefit in the novel. Behice Boran, analyzing Halide Edip's female novel heroes and addressing female novelists' love novels, though it has not yet appeared in that period, has a close proximity to feminist literary criticism. While not inclined to the topic of women in the novel criticism, Suat Derwish, a majority of the literary criticists, is a feminist literary criticism as a female writer who has not counted the novels.
