Abstract:

This research focuses on avant-garde techniques in flute and its use in ensemble. The avant-garde movement focusing on new timbres and sensations enabled the instruments to go beyond the usual technical limits. The flute, which is one of the oldest known instruments, has changed for different timbres in different geographies throughout its historical adventure. Along with the avant-garde movement, Boehm flutes, which were the last common form, also underwent mechanical changes. This movement, which is not limited to mechanical change, has led to the development of new playing techniques. These advanced techniques, which require a lot of work and mastery, have started to be preferred by composers in today's music. The sample of the study is Op.1 “Zero” composed by Ufuk BİÇAK. Composed for flute, sib clarinet, violin, cello, and piano, only the flute part has been examined. It is seen that avant-garde techniques are used singly or multiple times throughout the work.
