Abstract:

Animal farming, which affects the social and economic structure of societies, as well as the satisfaction of human life needs, has been an important production field throughout history. Turkey is a agricultural country, so it has been a continued activity in almost every region where climate and plant cover is favorable, often supported by agriculture. It is possible to say that the importance given to agriculture and livestock in economic policies held in a small geographical region or in a large scale throughout the country reflects the fundamental indicators of economic development in that region. In this study, in 1954, the state of the Adapazarı-Sakarya region, which is separated from the Kocaeli province to which it was so far connected, was studied in the animal field. After the steps taken in the field of livestock during the early Republic, examples of work in this field were given in the local sense during the Democratic Party, which was in power between the 1950s and 1960s. In Sakarya, where the majority of the population is concerned with agriculture and livestock, animal existence, cultivation processes, income from livestock, animal welfare issues have been addressed.  The basic material of the study consists of the Prime Minister's Republic Archive documents, the data of the Turkish Statistical Bureau, the Provincial Years, research and investigation works on the subject and local newspapers. In this sense, considering that it will serve the whole, it is intended to contribute to local history research by conducting a special study of the selected period.
