Bu çalışmada, Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi bünyesinde bulunan Sağlık Yüksek Okulu ve Sağlık Hizmetleri Meslek Yüksek Okulu’nda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sigaraya karşı tutumlarını, sigarayla ilişkili hastalıklar ve sigara içiminin kontrolünde yasal önlemler konusundaki düşüncelerini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada ankete katılan toplam 365 öğrenciden 14’ ü erkek (%3,8) 351’i kız (%96,2) ve yaş ortalamaları 21,05 ± 1,89 yıldı. Öğrencilerin 79’ u (%21,6) her gün, 58’i (% 15.9) bazen sigara içiyordu, 228’i (%62,5) hiç sigara içmiyordu.
This study aims to identify the attitudes of students studying at the Adnan Menderes University’s High School of Health and Health Services Professional High School, their thoughts on the legal measures to control smoking, smoking-related diseases and smoking. Of the total of 365 students involved in the survey, 14 men (3.8%) 351 girls (96.2%) and the average age of 21,05 ± 1,89 years. 79 of the students (21.6 percent) were smoking every day, 58 (15.9 percent) were sometimes smoking, 228 (62.5 percent) were never smoking. The average age to start smoking was 16.2 ± 2.98. The reasons for starting to smoke were curiosity (28.4%) and affection from friends (21.6%. While there is no connection between the student’s smoking habit and the parents’s smoking habit, it was observed that the students who smoked their brothers and sisters smoked more statistically significantly than those who didn’t drink (p=0,000). 98.4 percent of students knew that smoking was harmful, 97.6 percent was associated with lung cancer and 96.8 percent was associated with throat cancer. In smoking students, the rate of support for measures in the form of excessive rise in cigarette prices (P=0,000) and non-sale to children under the age of 18 (P=0.008) was lower than in non-smoking students. As a result, it was established that the smoking person should be assessed as a whole together with his environment and family and the factors affecting smoking should be closer monitored, that young people should not start smoking and, in addition to the legal sanctions to get rid of this habit, the educational work should be emphasized.
