Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda sûfiler kurdukları tekke-zaviyeleri ve çok yönlü faaliyetleriyle sosyal ve içtimai hayatın hemen her alanında etkin bir yere sahip olmuşlardır. Söz konusu bu etki Ramazan, bayram, kurban, kandil geceleri, aşure günü gibi mübarek kabul edilen, dini ve manevi iklimi daha yoğun ve özel olan zaman dilimlerinde daha da artmıştır. İşte bu çalışma sûfîler açısından tekke ve zaviyelerin halka açıldığı, zikir ve ayinler, iftar sofraları, teravih namazları, vaazlar, sohbetler, türbe ziyaretleri, Kadir gecesinin ihyası gibi hadiselerle etkileşimin ve kaynaşmanın doruk noktasına ulaştığı Ramazan ayındaki çok yönlü yaşam pratiklerini ve bu olguların onların yaşantısı üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Ramazan’ın gerek devlet gerekse halktan yapılan yardımların artmasına, yeni istihdam alanlarının açılmasına yol açarak sûfîlerin sosyo-ekonomik yaşantılarına olan ve zamanla gelenekselleşen etkileri üzerinde durulmuştur. Yine Ramazan’da sûfilerin sosyal ve kültürel yaşamları, kamusal alanla ve sosyal çevreyle geliştirdikleri ilişkilerin mahiyeti, dini ve manevi konulardaki adetleri gibi hususlara açıklık getirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Konunun muhtevası çok geniş olduğundan ayrıca bir araştırmayı gerektiren Ramazan bayramı olgusu ve bayramlaşma merasimlerine burada yer verilmemiştir. Tarihi bir araştırma hüviyetinde olan çalışmada arşiv vesikalarından, dönemin sosyal ve kültürel dokusuna, gündelik yaşantısına dair tafsilatlı bilgiler veren sufî kaynaklarından, seyahatname, hatırat türü eserlerden, kroniklerden ve çağdaş araştırmalardan yararlanma yoluna gidilmiştir.
In the Ottoman Empire, the Sufis have established their tech-zaviyes and their diversity of activities, having an effective place in almost every field of social and internal life.
