Abstract:

Helicobacter pylori is a common infection factor in the world. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent morbidity and mortality. This study was aimed at investigating the frequency of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in patients with an endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal system. Tools and Methods: From January 2017 to May 2018, the endoscopy and pathological reports of 428 patients performed by the endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal system for different reasons in the Children's Gastroenterology Department of the Shanlıurfa Education and Research Hospital were reverse assessed. The diagnosis of H. pylori infection was placed in the histopathological examination of biopsy samples. Results: 60.7% of patients were girls, with an average age of 9.8±4.6 (1-18) years. Among endoscopic indications, growth tension, suspicion of malaria and abdominal pain were ranked in the first three. In 67.1% of cases, H. pylori is positive. Although there was no meaningful relationship between the H. pylori frequency and gender, the H. pylori frequency was observed increasing with age. The result: H. pylori infection continues to be a major public health problem in our country. Considering that the infection is gained more in the age group of childhood, the importance of early diagnosis and treatment without serious morbidity in older ages is better understood.
