Bu çalışmanın amacı, dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencilerinin kanser kavramı ile ilgili bilişsel yapılarını belirlenmesidir. Çalışmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubu, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında Marmara bölgesinde bulunan bir meslek lisesinde öğrenim gören 50 dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencisinden oluşmaktadır. Bağımsız kelime ilişkilendirme testi ile toplanana veriler, içerik analizi tekniğine göre analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma sonuçlarına göre, öğrencilerin kanserle ilgili 8 tema ve 81 alt tema altında 265 kelime ürettikleri belirlenmiştir. Bu temalar: Tanım (13), belirtiler (17), nedenler (20), çeşitleri (61), sonuçlar (39), tedavi (85), korunma yolları (2), algılar (28). Öğrencilerin kanser kavramıyla ilişkili yazdıkları anlamlı cümleler (36), 7 tema altında toplanmıştır: Tanım (8), nedenler (4), çeşitleri (2), sonuçlar (6), algılar (5), tedavi (8), korunma yolları (3). Sonuç olarak, öğrencilerin en çok tedavi, çeşitleri ve sonuçlar temaları ile ilgili kelime ürettikleri gözlenirken, öğrencilerin en çok tanım, tedavi ve sonuçlar temaları ile ilgili cümle kurdukları belirlenmiştir.
The aim of this study is to identify the cognitive structures of ninth-class students related to the concept of cancer. In the study, quality research methods were used to study the situation. The work group consists of 50 ninth-class students studying in a professional high school in the Marmara region in the 2019-2020 educational year. The data collected by the independent word association test, is analyzed according to the content analysis technique. According to the results of the study, students were determined to produce 265 words under 8 cancer-related themes and 81 sub themes. These topics are: Definition (13), Symptoms (17), Causes (20), Varieties (61), Results (39), Treatment (85), Routes of Prevention (2), Perceptions (28). The meaningful phrases that students write in relation to the concept of cancer (36), were gathered under 7 topics: Definition (8), Causes (4), Varieties (2), Results (6), Perceptions (5), Treatment (8), and Methods of Protection (3). As a result, the students were observed to produce the most words related to the themes of treatment, variety and results, while the students were determined to set the most phrases related to the themes of definition, treatment and results.
The aim of this study was to determine ninth grade students’ cognitive structures related to cancer. The descriptive survey model was used in the study. The study group consisted of 50 ninth grade students studying in a vocational high school in the Marmara region in Turkey in the 2019-2020 academic year. Data were collected by independent word association test and were analyzed according to the content analysis technique. According to the results of the study, the students produced 265 words under eighth themes and 80 sub-themes related to cancer. These themes were: Cancer definition (13), cancer symptoms (17), cancer causes (20), cancer types (61), cancer results (39), cancer treatment (85), ways to prevent cancer (2), perceptions towards cancer (28). The meaningful sentences (36) that students wrote about cancer were collected under seven themes: Cancer definition (8), cancer causes (4), cancer types (2), cancer results (6), cancer treatment (8), ways to prevent cancer (3), perceptions towards cancer (5). As a result, the students produced words related to the themes of cancer treatment, cancer types and cancer results mostly, while the students wrote sentences related to the themes of cancer definition, cancer treatment and cancer results.
