This cross-sectional study aimed to verify if there is a difference in the presence of obesity in schoolchildren from the urban and rural areas of Santa Cruz do Sul-RS. The study was composed of 2373 children and adolescents, schoolchildren from public schools, urban and rural areas, aged between six and 17 years. The Body Mass Index (BMI) was used as an indicator of school obesity, being calculated from the measures of weight and height, classified according to the percentile curves of the World Health Organization and analyzed in SPSS v. 23.0 (IBM, Armonk, USA). The prevalence of overweight /obesity is more prevalent in the urban area, only in males (RP: 1.08, p = 0.003), among the regions, was more prevalent in the north of the city (RP: 1.14, p <0.001), and among girls, the prevalence of overweight / obesity was lower in the central region (PR: 0.94, p = 0.043) and west (PR: 0.92, p = 0.025), not associated with the zona or place of residence.
